Do you accept 4K?

Definitely! Demand for 4K is as high as 5x that of HD which translates to more sales. When you shoot 4K you’re future-proofing your clips for longer sales.

Do you accept HD?

Yes we do. But start thinking about 4K because it will increase the chances that you will see higher sales numbers for more years to come.

Can I still send other footage to distributors myself?

Yes, you can always distribute footage that you haven’t sent to Clippn (or that we haven’t accepted) yourself. Clippn’s agreement covers only the footage that you send to us. This is to ensure that our distributors do not receive duplicate clips and so that we have the freedom to send your clips to new distributors to optimize sales.

How much money can I make?

It all comes down to quantity, quality, and variety. Clippn is here to help you make as much as possible. We know some stock footage shooters who do this full time and make a good living at it. Remember to keep uploading because your clips will sell year after year. Your continued effort will pay off in multiples.

Which distributors are you working with?

We only work with the world’s top distributors who have the experience and means to maximize sales. Our distributors are our true partners in that they rely on us to supply them with high quality, curated content. We rely on them to sell it. To that end, we don’t send your clips to every distributor – some only accept certain kinds of footage, others might be better suited to selling your type of content. So there are tactical decisions we make for distribution based on your clips to optimize revenue. You can see where your clips are selling on the Sales page.

How long will it take to process my footage so I can see my clips on the dashboard?

We aim to clip your footage and send it to distributors within 30 days from upload. Usually you’ll see the edited clips on your Dashboard in a matter of weeks.

Why don’t I see my clips up on the distributor sites?

It takes some distributors longer than others to post your clips on their sites. The status on your Clippn Dashboard “Clips” page indicates that your clips have been sent to the distributors, but not necessarily accepted. We are working with the distributors to have a consistent status that reflects whether your clips have been accepted and are live on their sites.

Why is the initial signup period for 18 months?

It takes time for clips to appear on our distributor sites, and once they’re there, it takes time to gain traction in search so you start seeing sales. This initial term gives your clips a chance to find their audience and start building momentum. Clippn only gets paid when you get paid, so 18 months gives us all time to see sales.

Why did some of my footage not get processed into clips?

Our goal is to generate as many clips as possible out of your content for distribution. Our curators are experts in knowing what the distributors will accept or reject, so those are the standards that we go by. While rare, if there’s ever any content that you were expecting would get turned into clips but didn’t – feel free to resubmit just that content with a note in the upload wizard for us to take another look, and we will.

How fast can my clips get to the distributors?

First Clippn processes your content, then we send the clips to the distributors. We have seen some clips appear on our distributor sites the same day. Some distributors can take as long as a month or two to clear the footage. We are constantly working with our distributors to speed this process. Because of our relationships with distributors, on average you will see your clips appearing much faster on their sites than if you were to send the clips there yourself.

Can I submit SD archival?

We are trying to future proof our content by focusing on higher resolutions, like 4K and above. This will mean that your clips will be selling for longer and will make more money in the long run. That said, if you think you have some unique SD archival footage, we’re happy to take a look to see if it has potential to sell. Do I have to export my footage before sending?

No! That’s why we’re here so you don’t have to do that. If you are shooting new footage continually, you should know by now about our best practices (from the onboarding video and Clippn University), so you should be editing as much in-camera as possible. This does help us process and distribute your clips faster, and it also boosts your clip count.

How long does it take to get paid?

Our goal is to pay you as quickly as possible. We pay you within 30 days of receiving payment from the distributor that sold the clip. Most of them are allowed 30 days to pay us from the time of sale, though some have a longer turnaround time.

What kind of content are you looking for?

We are looking for unique clips. The Variety Matrix will give you ideas for specific shots that can sell.

Do you accept GoPro?

Definitely.

Do you accept raw RED?

Yes we do.

Do you buy content?

Clippn does not buy content – we are a wholesale model, distributing your clips through the world’s leading distributors. You always own your content. But if you have a unique collection that you are looking to sell outright, we might be able to assist in getting your footage ready-for-sale and identifying potential buyers.
